Nicole Pohland

Designer

Hi! My name is Nicole Pohland and I was born and raised in Ocean City, Maryland (Actually Berlin but that doesn’t sound as cool). I grew up with my mom making a lot of me and my sisters clothing, so she taught me how to sew at a young age. I won a sewing contest at the age of 8 for a fair. Then I got really into acting and accidentally become the costume designer and maker for the Ocean Pines Children’s Theatre. That all started when I got really angry at not being able to find an affordable monkey costume for “The Jungle Book” so i made my own, then before i knew it I had an order in for 17 of them. Then I got to do majority of the costumes for “Beauty and the Beast” that was a lot of fun designing the long dresses then making them. Now some how I got involved with Kuloco making summer dresses. I try to make fun practical dresses that will look good on majority of girls. Many of my dresses have empire waist lines to compliment most girls bodies and i try to add pockets when ever i can, pockets in dresses is just a great concept. I try to make them easily versatile so that you can wear the dresses to the beach or out at night. I describe my style as simple yet unique.

Currently I live in New York on the Upper East Side, I go to Hunter College where I am yet to declare a major. I am also taking an art class at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and I plan to take more classes there. I am learning how to properly put my ideas onto paper right now. In the future I am planning on hopefully taking pattern making classes and sewing classes to further my skills. Other than sewing and designing clothes I love to dance, walk around the city, meet new and exciting people, and just have fun. I am the type of person who is always finding ways to amuse myself, which is probably why i love creating art so much.
